HUG

„HUG” is a project focused on a man to man relationship, a delicate aspect of proximity wrapped in brutal sports competition. In its form, a tight embrace reveals an attempt to merge two bodies into one.

Kto ty jesteś… / Who you are… this are the firs words of the rhyme for children at the primary shool in Poland. „Who you are” project centers on a subject of Polish national identity. Discussion over the problem of the shape of the patriotism, national identity and its practices electrifies both the public and the media. Expansion and polarization of the conflict between nationalism and internationalism have left scarcely any room for those who do not identify themselves with any of extreme attitudes. Drogowski refutes this discussion contesting its extremist nature and encourages us both to take a part in it, and to take the discussion itself to a whole different level.

Foolishness for Christ (Greek: διά Χριστόν σαλότητα, Church Slavonic: оуродъ, юродъ) refers to behavior such as giving up all one’s worldly possessions upon joining a monastic order, or deliberately flouting society’s conventions to serve a religious purpose–particularly of Christianity. Such individuals have historically been known as both „holy fools” and „blessed fools”. The term „fool” connotes what is perceived as feeblemindedness, and „blessed” or „holy” refers to innocence in the eyes of God.

Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw has organised an event entitled „Dary dla ukrainy”- Gifts for Ukraine with the purpose of donating works by Polish artists to a museum in Ukraine in support of a country suffering Russian military aggression. When I started to think about what kind of artwork could be appropriate for this laudable initiative, I wondered whether any work of art at all was appropriate. You know, people are dying there, and then they receive a package with work of some artists from Poland… Here is the question about the role of art in the face of war. And, also, the question – What is more valuable, the individual person or the symbol? I have developed a series of works using materials useful for survival, such as blankets, wood, soap and canned food. Use of materials in accordance with their original purpose will erase national symbols and break the symbolic value of the work. These works have never been sent to Ukraine.

Adam 2020 is an artistic project developed from the mere desire to examine the evolving life on the Earth as a one cohesive, vibrant & ever growing organism.

Adam is a ‘living’ object which embodies the collective thought of mankind, a simple map of a global organism’s neural network…
